November 20th.
Sunday the 20th of November saw an advanced party of Fly Fishers getting their first taste of River Tactics, although these anglers are all experienced Still Water fishers they were ready for the step up to challenge and rewards of the Rivers, this session was to ready the paricipants for a more intense Fish Catching Session in the Spring, so although some fish were caught the emphasis was on the basics in River Safety, Water Craft, necessary Casting Techniques, and yes some fishing, were they happy, check for yourself in the Group pictures taken after a Full Day.

Special Mention to Steve Daley (CCA Level One Angling Coach) for setting up an excellant programme for the Day (Steve is on the extreme Right above).

Its always a success story when you finish with the same number of Anglers you started out with.

October 2011 Review.
October was quite eventful, which included two visits Salmon Fishing in Wales preducing two Salmon, which was extremly satifying to say the least, both fish (1 x 7 lb Hen fish Fresh Run & 1 x 5lb Cock fish slightly coloured) were both transferred to the Local Hatchery, and once they have provided the necessaries will be safely returned to the River, both caught on the Fly (as you would expect).

Not in the same league as catching Atlantic Salmon on the Fly, but all the same envigorating, was whilst being a guest of that 'Great' British Manufaturer JCB, I was 'A' in the very first party to visit their brand new museum, it is a powerful experience to behold a true success in our otherwise depleted home grown products, and 'B' as their guest in the evening I was invited to take part in a Firewalk, well after being told I would have to sign a disclaimer against any accidents or injury, and that the fire pit was in excess of 20 feet in length, as well as being in excess of 500 degrees C, I thought no chance see you in the bar later, however, I had not taken into account the power of music, just before the time to make that decision they played Firestarter by Prodigy (Keith and the Boys), that was it, let me at it, what an experience, if you get the chance, put yourself to the test.

Scotland Adventure
A few times a year I organise a trip to Scotland, where generally I spend some me time at the Farm, as well as arranging some fly fishing, this year some representatives of Team Glengap joined me towards the end of the week to sample some out of the way fishing locations, one of the locations was a remote Loch stocked with Hard Fighting Rainbows, and I mean Hard Fighting, it is no good going under gunned for these fish, with a smattering of Wild Brownies and the occassional Sea Trout visiting via the feeder burn.

Earlier in the week a visit to the Collie Wash whilst checking the Stock at the Farm.

Due to a Hurricane making its way across the area on Saturday,
the anticipated Loch fishing from a boat for Wild Brown trout was sensibly abondoned
for a shopping trip for 'Pink Wellies' and the 'hospitality' of the local brewery,
as well as visits to some prominent land marks in the area.

A photograph of the Loch we should have been fishing Saturday on a better day.

So its goodbye to the Farm until the Spring, interested? drop me an enquiry.
Although I hope to be coming up to the area later in September for some Salmon Fishing.

BALA County Game Fair 13th & 14th August
This weekend myself and some of my colleagues from the professional body of the Game Angling Instructors Association gave up our time to support the BALA Show which is in its second year, as last year it was a success seeing both days well attended, for my own responsibility I was given the task of running the casting tuition, with myself was Alun Rees APGAI and newly qualified Roger Miles GAIC, we were extremely well supported by members of Bala Angling who brought a wealth of fishing knowledge as well as being able to help me as an Englishman pronounce correctly some of the participants names, anyone interested in Fly Fishing or Field Sports should look out for next years dates as this is really a great opportunity to meet and discuss the finer arts of casting , fly tying and fishing, I will be posting the web site on my 'Link' page.
In the two days we coached just short of 100 participants, all of which were able to improve on their techniques.

Pupil who achived the most was the young man pictured above, within twenty minutes we had him roll casting off both right and left shoulder, as well as overhead casting both right and left handed, his only flaw? he is a Manchester City supporter.

Monday 1st August 2011
Well here is the first entry of 'TEAM GLENGAP', the year has gone so fast to date, the calander has been so full of coaching situations which have all been received with so much enthusiam by our members, I say members as all those taking part are on a journey of self development through our programmes, which are designed to accomodate the novice angler through to the experienced improvers, this season has also seen past students being awarded their Coaching Badges, which in itself is the begining of the next road, not that there is any definitive end to the art of fly fishing as there is always something new to learn each time we go onto the water.
Our latest events provided by Glengap Fly Fishing has included the very best of Still Water angling as well as the very best of River Fishing, the venues for which are selected very carefully to provide the very best environment to enjoy the learning process.
Below are a few examples of our latest excursions on the Afon Dyfrdwy, the results of a weekend course for complete River novices and what can be achieved.
Our monthly get togethers have been fully subscribed each month, as has been their popularity with anglers signing up for the immediate following sessions,
with novices in all cases progressing to expert and successful anglers
.
